i asked around and this is a response i got from someone else:

"Its better to make a spacer out of something that's already thick enough to make a difference in reed lift rather than stacking a whole bunch of gaskets together. Couple of reasons for that. One, a load of gaskets shifting around when you nip the mounting screws up is a recipe for vacuum leaks, and two, when someone looks at your bike it will appear that you know what you're doing and not a twonk. The spacer wants to be at least 3mm thick(plus a gasket each side making closer to 4mm) to be of any use at all. That would be a lot of gaskets. 3mm or 1/8" sheet aluminum is flavor of the month. Be sure to put it under the reedcage not on top and under the manifold like my friend did. I don't think I have to tell you who looked like the twonk that day."

so i guess using a bunch of gaskets isnt a great idea. how would u go about cutting 3mm aluminum?
