Authorities are investigating three late-night car fires in San Pablo to see if they are linked to a spate of vehicle arson fires in west Contra Costa County earlier this month.More Bay Area News * 3 more car fires in west Contra Costa 11.17.09 * Derailment disrupts Muni Metro service 11.17.09 * This business has legs - in season 11.17.09 * Brown calls independent investigation of tapes 11.17.09A car was found on fire near the corner of Market Avenue and Rumrill Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.Two hours later, two more cars were found ablaze on the 2400 block of 18th Street, less than a mile away."I could see orange stuff outside the window and I was wondering what it was," Anika Johnson, 19, who lives on the street, said today. "For a moment, I hesitated, and then I hear a boom. I jumped up and looked and I saw all this haze, and then smoke and fire everywhere."It turned out to be two cars burning - her brother's Nissan Altima and her boyfriend's Buick."This is wrong. They should quit," Johnson said. "People don't deserve stuff like this. People work hard for everything they earn. People shouldn't just take stuff away like that."Her mother, Paula Johnson, 45, said, "It's just crazy. I want to move now." She also implored for whoever was responsible to stop: "Please leave everybody alone."The three fires broke out several miles away from a set of 16 arson attacks on vehicles in El Sobrante and Richmond that happened Nov. 4 and 7.The arsonist has broken into the cars and used combustible material inside to set the fires, authorities said.
