Default Cagllari (Cag's electric conversion thread)

it is very easy to do, all you need is som parts:
(welding required, but you can do it with out welding)

motor mount: this is made custom out of 3/8"-1/4" plate aluminum
bent at a 90* angle. then drill holes for vents and mounting

Motor: any 450watt-1200watt motor will work, most come with a 11t/25# gear
mounted. cost: $30-$100(us)

Rear sprocket: have to get a 25# chain wheel 55t-80t cost: $20-$40(us)

controler(brainbox): 36v(30-50amp) controlers are easy to mount, and use
less batterys
48v(50-100amp) controler require more cells so space
becoms an isue

batterys: look for seald lead acid or even AGP cells, 12volt12ampHour cells
are hard to make space for, if this is your fist attemp at an EVpb
then get some 12volt7ampHour gellcells, 3 of these takes up the
same space as 2) 12v12ah cells, so keep this in mind when you
are planning......

fuse/breaker: 30-50 amps should be the zone you should look at, depends
on the motor and controler you use

tape: i use gerila tape, it is a stronger version of 3M's 200mph tape...this
is to mount batterys, you will also have to have some metal under
the cells too dont forget

sheet metal: any you can find and weld to(this is for gellcell support, every
battery mount should be strong and welded to the frame good.
then tape the cell to the bike mounted on the battery mont)

lastly: donor bike, this has to be in OK condition like:
good brakes
no cracks on frame
no bends in frame
basicly if you would not ride it if it was still gas dont convert it! just use a good bike, this does not mean a brand new bike, but one use but not retired

if done right the bike will do 30mph easy in less then 2.5 seconds
but it will not like to stop as it did when it was gas, so check out a duel front break set up...trust me this modd is worth it if you have a cag you dont ride, why not have a tast of sothing else

more post to come, keep it on topic! Plz...stay on topic, post the silly shht after postong somthing to better the topic

every 750watts is 1hp, and to find electric torqe you multiply hp times 10 to get torque(ruff estmt)

so a 2hp motor electric will put out 20pounds of torque

but if you can put even more amps to the motor then needed and the motr can take it, under load an electric motor can put out up to 100 times that

so in other words if need bee a 2hp motor can put out up to 200pound of torque if made strong enuff

my motors are mainly right now 1hp i have a couple 2hp motors but have yet to use them. but my 750w motor in my PitBike can clime up 45* slopes for about 60ft till ifeal any slowdown from the bike, that is 250pounds of weight

in a Cag conversion i would use a 36v1000w motr if it can fit, it has bean done, a guy on Pocketbikeplanet.com has one in his, he has not geared it right though, at only 25mph it is slow to me...if done right the cag will do 0-30mph in under 3 seconds and top out at 35-40mph wich will make it as fast as a stock GOOD CAG, but will have a run time that is longer then its gas brother.....

i will be doing a Cag of my own very soon, to show how easy it is, i expect a 2 hour job max

woow, thats going to put out some serious torque, and dose it take very long ot get it up to speed, and what would happen if you put a smaller sprocket on the motor, would it get up faster?

getting up to speed is always very quick......

Remember what i said though, electric motors make more power under load, so you realy have to gear it for as much speed as the track or parking lot needs.

a 18t/44t-10" tires/gears set up will make over 40mph(3-4sec) @48v50amps(if i have more amps it will take less time to get up to speed.

at 15t/44t-10" tires/gears the bike will do 0-30 in less then 2.5 seconds@48v50amps, i think i could get it down to a second if i had a 100amp controler

always remember this:

voltage=speed, the voltage you have the more RPM you can make

amps=take off time, the more power your controler can put out the faster it will get up to speed

Amp houres=run time, the bigger the batterys, mesured in ampHours the longer the bike will stay at a good voltage, couse once the bike drops below 11.5 volts a cell the bike will loose half its top speed. normaly a gellcell puts out up to 14volts fully charged matters what quality they are...

gears should always be used like they are used in all aplications, cut off top speed to make up for take off speed
