Default MiniMoto Upgrade

I just found this forum and it looks really cool. I bought my son a minimoto from ctc a couple of years ago and nows its crapped out. I'm thinking of doing a little upgrade now since he's a little older (10) and was thinking of either a 24v 250w motor or 350w. I've found some 250w motors that are belt driven. I know i'll have to replace the controller as well and add 2 12v batteries. Just wondered if anyone has done a simular mod. Any problems? things to look out for? Also wondered if there is any parts suppliers in southern ontario. Found a place in London but when i went there he really didn't seem interested in anything electric. Said he had a motor but then he couldn't find it!! Also how difficult would it be to convert from belt to chain and is it worth it? Thanx in advance.

I don't know a lot about electric bikes, but to change a motor over from a belt drive to a pinion (to run a chain) should just involve replacing the output shaft with one that has a pinion.

However this may involve opening the motor (I don't know, just guessing) so I would speak with a company that works on electric motors first. You should find some in your local yellow pages who can help.

Don't bother goign to pocket bike dealers as most of them will just look at you strangely

Thanks for the reply. I have the option to buy a motor with belt drive or chain drive just wondered which option is better and what would be involved with changing the drive on the rear wheel.

To change the drive on the rear wheel to belt drive would probably require a new swingarm for the clearance needed for the belt. Much easier to go with the chain.

Thanx for the info it is belt driven now but looking at the motor options available i think I'm going to go chain that way as he gets older maybe might be easier to mod later on.

the 55t gear and 9t pinion gears will fit that bike from Razorama.com

I have an extra 55t you want? just look at the free wheel on the rear wheel, if it is four bolt this will work....

Ps buy a razorPR200 chain as well it should plop right in with out having to cut links...Razor is now buying there parts for the 2007 RazorPR200's from the same maker as the MinniMoto.....Me I hat that couse the Minnimoto stock is inferior compared to the stock RazorPR200.

Pm me on you tubemrexon
if you want me to ship the gear to you we will talk how it will ship then...no charge for the gear, but shipping

K i was at a surplus store and ended up buying 2 12v 7a batteries for $15 and i wired them into the bike. It's normally a 18v so i thought i'd see what happens. Well its stil running LOL!!! Gave some torque and speed. Not sure its going to last but i'll see what happens. Still have to get that back wheel off to be able to see whats on there. One side has a big plastic cover the other side is the drum and i cant see anything until i take it apart.

Just dont run her past her dead point, your now bypassing the voltage shut off and if you take the 24volt set up past 20volts dead then you will kill your new batteries....I my self belived the stock controller in the mini moto is rated for up to 26volts@25amps, at least the one I had three years back was.

Do you need a 24volt charger? I have like 4 of them right now, I could sell you one for say $15 pluss shipping. the stock charger will fry your cells under charging them@18.875volts. your new set up will need a 26volt charge voltage to peak right.
