Default New to THESE THINGS(HELP)

I just got another bike and i poped a hole in the piston, i put a bigger piston in, and a new carb, the bike will start with the choke on but as soon as you turn it off the bike dies....... lots of compression plenty of spark, and the gas is getting to the carb because it is leaking out of the overflow... i dunno..

to know if it is ur jetting for sure , check ur plug !
black in color , it is to rich , Very white , too lean , if it looks like those brown flower pots , the color i mean , then it is perfect !
when i say color , it ,means take out the spark plug , and look at the inside area of electrode , the spark area !

Also , are you sure you do not have a vacuum leak ?
did u reuse gaskets or anything that may allow air to get in on the motor side of the carb . ie. reed area , intake manifold , head gasket .

Well when i first got it together, we had to pour gas into the carb to even get it to fire, pulled it 50 times nothing so we used gas in the carb and now it will fire on it's own but will only run with the choke on....

the choke being off is allowing more air than gas meaning that the jet needs to be upsized to allow more fuel, because there not enough fuel going in through the jet... right or wrong

if your running the stock carb , try adjusting the notches on your needle . I think in your case , if it is in fact to lean , the clip must be brought down, which in turn will allow the needle to sit higher up . Allowing more fuel by ! Also , your carb adjustment or idle screw , where do u have it set , meaning how many turns out from completely in ?
