Question tachs

Just wanted to know how many of you are running a tach on your bikes? And what RPM do you consider "Red line"?

Red line is just before the motor seizes, the fun is finding out at what point that actually is.

I don't think of of the riders I know run a tach.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone back off. It's full throttle all the way.

O.K. thanks I think I might wear a jock when I try to find the max RPM. The body work does't look like it could stop any shrapnel.

lol

Is your bike stock? If so I doubt it would ever be able to kill itself with high rpm's. In fact I haven't seen any built bikes kill themselves with too high of rpm's yet either. I've seen water cooled bikes die from lack of cooling however, but that's a different issue.

Make sure you run with enough oil and you shouldn't have any issues. Also make sure you let the bike cool enough between races.

Never seen a cag blow from high rpm's. I've seen watercooled bikes die when their waterpump belt broke (it's seized from heat), I've seen bikes die from lack of oil (again seizing).

I suppose in high enough heat with enough riding you could smoke your motor. But you need to use common sense. No one would go open throttle for 10-20 minutes straight anyways. In any race you're going to back off the throttle for corners, so this gives the motor somewhat of a break. But heat is the major enemy in all cases.

Of course that brings up a small tip of the day. More heat, use a bit more oil.

so that might be the problem with my cag... the sucker wont start but when it does its not for too long... it slowly stops... I started it today and that all it would do... it would stay stating when its on full throttle thought.... I think it might be siezed... but then I always used enough oil in the sucker... could it be from a bad reed?? when I took the engine apart during the cold winter days I took the reed out and it had kinks in it
