i mentioned before on another 40 motor I just finished (BZM)...after all the case and port work done, we had to jump from an 18mm to a 21mm carb just to get enough flow in there...as soon as the roads dry we will get a few test runs down and I will let you know how it goes...i was just amazed that it really need that much bigger of a carb just to get it run right...but then again we did do a lot of metal removal:)

oh i completely agree with you there...but when you are running an 18mm carb on an open 40cc motor and you are not getting enough to run the motor even with a 110 main jet and a 4-stroke atomizer, makes you think a little.....everything changed with the extra 3mm...i mean the bike went from just a normal race bike to a machine with that different carb.

The carb that he ran on that motor before was the 18mm in the open class until I had a few ideas to throw at it...you would think the bike would still perform well, but it just didnt, not until the 21 got on there

Dude I had a Bangee Carb I was trying on My racer, and it worked well. Then I put on the D'orto 19mm Race Carb. I had to change the atomizer and put in the 100 main. Wow! What a dif. I'd have gone to a 21mm Carb but two things slowed My thought process. First I didn't have a clue where to get one, and I was concerned that it wouldn't fit in that confined area. Meaning the 19mm took up so much room that it had to be cocked at an angle just to clear the lower hanger. I finaly took my dremal and removed a little material from the lower hanger just so that I could place the Carb in the position straight up and down, and so that I could turn the Idle screw. The Idle screw has that huge head, making it a problem when you want to set the idle. So Dan where did you get your 21mm? what brand is it; Mukuni, Kein, D'orto.....? And what did it set you back? And did you have problems fitting it in that confined area? Spill it Dude.........

demon motor sports is where it was had originally i think, it is a dellorto. But we took it off his 50cc open DM bike to try it out so my buddy already had it lying around.

This was on a GRC RR, and it fit just as is so there wasnt any problem there.

see the difference 'is you were able to get a 19mm to work. maybe a 19 would have made the bike run, but we needed even something more than that just to get the bike to perfoem...I had no idea we needed that much more volume to get a 40cc motor to run...i fear when we tear into his 50 we will be up to a 24mm carb, and will probably have to look at a mikuni for that one, knowing what we know now....this was the most metal I have removed from an engine to date...I will let you know after we get some lap times and races in...
