Default safety issue

while working out my ignition problems, i decided to see why the fuel tank was loose under the bodywork, suprise, suprise.... the tank is not only not mounted, there are no provisions anyplace to mount or secure the tank, as shipped from the factory it just rattles around under the bodywork and sits across a peice of flat straps edge waiting to wear through, not even any rub material or anything, depending solely on the body to keep it from falling out. is this the case with all these little chinese bikes, something peculiar to the early models, or just dangerous practice by the manufacturer? i have owned this bike for close to 2 years, and received it new in box, so no mods were made, it is as delivered in this aspect. as the boy rides the hell out of this thing, you can imagine the scenarios that have played out in my mind, all involving a large ball of flame!!! now i will have to down it untill i can determine a better style of tank and weld in some mounting provisions to make it safe to ride......

only time i have ever had a prob is when i installed the inproper exhaust on the bike and it melted though , but , NO EXPLOSION ! Honestly do not think u should have any problems , we race every weekend , and can probably say harder than anyone i know in this city , and NO EXPLOSIONS ! If ya want grab some of that aluminum tape and stick it to bottom of tank , that way heat is reflected! i have even melted though fuel lines , and yet no fire or explosion ! But if you have a hole in it or it leaks definately change it !

That is quite common with the pocketbikes. However most of them do have some foam strips on top of the metal.

okey dokey, but what would ralph nader say? did fiix it anyway, 10 min prep n fab, 2 min with welder, n some o that coffee cup anti skid stuff and i feel much better..... really though, it is an oversight by the designers, maufacturers and about anyone else you can think of to neglect such a blatant flaw. and with all of the various private and governmentally sponsered saftey watchgroups out there, not to mention any organisations you racers deal with, how this problem even exists. in the nhra or any other sanctioning body ive ever dealt with, that kind of problem would not only fail tech, they most likely wouldnt even let you load it back up to get it back home until both the fuel and tank had been both removed and safely disposed of from said vehicle.......

tooo laaaate......
well, over the course of 50 years, ive been a member of the ama, ndra, ihra and nhra, won a few trophys, went faster than sanity or safety dictated by a large margin, had more than a few failures, and left enough skin behind to make a large coat. turned wrenches in a few outlaw shops (think h-2s or turboed z-1s) moto crossed, scrambled, cross countried, drag raced, and went round and round on more than a few dirt tracks. tried to get the kids interested in my hobbies over the years to no avail, (probably hated dodging the flying wrenches) now the grand kids are all aproaching their teens, and i couldnt think of a better way to teach them about engines than with these little bikes, they are cheap, the amount of performance parts available now is amazing, and the comradery is an essential part of life. plus the mechanical basics and driving skills we aquire are a vauable asset that serve well the rest of our lifes. besides, its just so much fun to go frikin fast!!!! sorry for the lengthy post, and i most certainly did not mean to sound so full of my self, a lot of you folks in here are much more qualified to discuss this particular aspect of motorsports than i am or ever will be. as far as racing or events for the minis, i dont know of any here in the valley of the sun, and service and parts are virtually non existant, ther are a couple hundred people here in the phx area that sell these bikes, but mention parts and eyes roll and feet shuffle. that was how i wound up here, internet searching for service parts and info.

ya know, after espousing all my claim to mechanical knowledge, i find it more than hilarious that after replacing every ignition peice on the little cag, it ran for about 4 hours and shorted another coil, so the proof is in the pudding, the simplest ignition ever devised, and i cant keep it running, must be time for a beer.maybe 4 or 5, maybe a whole bunch of em, nobody here but me today...any ideas, guys? ive replaced plug, kill switch, coil, lead, wire, flywheel, as i stated in my other post, this has beem a problem with this bike since new, and is gettin worse as it gets older, and ive just about wore out the theads in the block replaceing parts. maybe start from scratch with a whole new engine...

by the way, thanks admin, huckster, sleeves, and every one else for your input so far
(can you find the post hog now?)

All the winnipeg boys were out riding today and of course in Canada it's a long weekend so lots of people were off camping.

I'll try and think f other issues that might be killing you coil, can't think of any right now.. just too tired.

oh, ignition update3.2... bent or twisted crank, the vibration was shaking it apart i guess. process of elimination includes 1: setting bike on patio table and sending kids to fridge for a cold one 2: drinking cold one while sending kids to tool box for wrenches 3:sending kids back to fridge 4:disasemble starter cover and dropping screws for coil under patio 5:send kids back to fridge 6: pull flywheel and break fin. 7: throw wrenches and break out in profanity that causes neighbors to come out in alarm. 8: apologise to neighbor.9: apologise to kids. 10: send kids back to fridge. 11: reinstall fly wheel. 12: proceed to garage, go through tool box looking for dial indicator. 13: knock over cold and frosty beverage. 14:yell for kids. 15: yell louder.16: go to fridge myself 17: yell again for kids. 18: return to patio with indicator and fresh frosty. 19: return to house in search of wire coat hanger. 20: piss off granny. 21: exit hastily via kitchen and a new cold one. 22: find grand kids and pull them away from dragon ball z to learn something. 23: demonstrate how to use a dial indicator, spill beer, and cuss properly. 24: remove flywheel. 25: send kids back to fridge 26: bellow loudly for granny, kids report no more beverage supply. 27: argue with granny, convince her to make run to store. 28: install hammer on end of crank and cuss some more. 29: wipe tears from youngest ones eyes and apologise again. 30: determine crank is bent and strategically place larger hammer on end of shaft again. 31: determine that repair is as close as possible at this point and reassemble. 32: intercept granny upon return for hot one, dont they refridgerate these things at the market anymore ? 33: give granny a big ol sloppy drunk kiss and pinch butt.....(how does she put up with me?) 34: return to patio table, turn on fuel, strategically gather kids. 35: take big swig of disturbingly warm beverage. 36: send kid to freezer for colder nourishment. 37: grasp pull start firmly and pull. 38: get back on feet , assure kids grampas okay. 39: grasp and pull handle again. 40: exult in cheers from kids as little engine ring a dingd to life. 41: bask in warm glow wile enjoying finally cold beverage and watching kids ride like maniacs.
