Default triple stage reed question

i just installed a triple stage reed and now i am hearing a wierd noise. my bike hasnt started yet. i just pulled the cord a few times. are the triple stage reeds louder? do you remove the reed limiter or whatever you call that thing that goes behind the reed and sits really close to the crank. i noticed the new reed was thicker and might push that part into the crank. i have a FC crank by the way

at 1st it sounded like the piston was hitting the spark plug but i pulled the plug and it looked fine. i havent run the bike since i put the bigbore cylinder, fc crank and triple stage reed. the compression is insane. i see an aluminum starter pawl in my near future. ill run it and post up the results

Run the limiter. Removing it will defeat the stuffing effect of the full circle crank. I file mine down a bit to allow the reeds to open 2-3mm more.

To save breaking pawls, be careful how you start the bike. First, slowly pull out the first bit of cord until the pawl engages the flywheel. Pul a tiny bit more until it feels like the piston is at the top of the compression cycle. Then, and only then, pull the bike over. I always put my knee on the seat to keep from pulling the bike off the ground. I have been running a 44mm headkit for almost 2 years, and I have never broken the plastic pawl.

thats how i start all pull start engines. i have been riding for 20 years, but thats great info for a noob.

should i file the side closest to the crank also. i havent opened it up to check yet, but it seems like it is rubbing. if i take it out again i will file the reed side so it can open more too

i wish i could but for some reason the bike doesnt want to start. engines usually fail to confuse me, but i have had more problems with this pocket bike than any other engine. i have worked on plenty of 2 strokes and have never really had much trouble but this pocket bike has had me pulling my hair out for a year. it never runs for more than a couple weeks
