Default Exhaust

G'day fellow pocketbike enthusiasts. I have a 49cc bike and i find the exhaust too loud. Had a browse around and couldnt find anything so far so i thought i would ask. I dont know if this is a common concern, i figured most would be more interested in modding their exhaust to get better power.
So, any ideas ? I know i won't get rid of all the sound, but i just want it a bit quieter, i want to turn heads for the right reasons, not for the wrong!

First, welcome to the forum.

Most pipe mods increase the noise of the bike. Water cooled bikes are even louder stock and get worse with mods.

I'll let pb x-treme handle your question. He's the king of pipe mods. I'll send him a message so he knows to look here.

the 2 ways to quiet down your 2 stroke 1- wrap your expansion chamber w/ header wrap. there is 2 good points to this, it will get rid of the tinny noise and it will bring down the temp close to your engine. the bad thing is the extremely high temp inside the pipe causes the pipe to eventually break apart ( but pipes are cheap right ) 2-add lenght to your stinger and make sure it's packed well. hope this helps and welcome to the forum

Dude/Mate you gotta understand how and why's B4 you can knock down some of the DB"s. If you wanna make it Quiter ya gotta repack the Silencer with Fiberglass. Although it burns up Pretty quickly. And ya gotta pack it in kindda losely. Just the opposite of what you may think....Trust me Losely.........

oritey, certainly palces to go from here. What is header wrap (e.g brands/materials)
Bigbone57 i understand why and how the exhaust is making noise, infact if i had noise sound meter type job i could probably design an exhaust that would cancel alot of the noise, but short of redesigning and manufacturing a new exhaust, i just want it a bit quieter.
Would packing with kevlar work better then fibreglass for endurance?

Default ?

please do not wrap your header..it is damaging also to the mostor as it increases the temp inside the head and can lead to serious failure..
adding even hotter exhaust gas to an already heat troubled motor will surely decrease the life of the motor..
i would not sacrifice my motor for a few decibles..
thats my opinion though..

Default Well Mate.....No...

Dude/Mate, Kevlar would definitly last longer, because the material is denser than fiberglass, e.i. longevity. Fiberglass will absorb more of the exaust sound, being that it has more air space between the strands. Alhtough the pipe will lose some of its performance values. And kevlar cost just a itybity more than Fiberglass. You say you understand the Whys ect.....Trust me......I don't advise anyone to use header wrap. It will raise the heat factor, e.i. bad thinngs will happen...Again trust me..... Edit time...Dude the more I think about it, the more P'D off I get! Admin. Dude Kick me off if you wanna but I personaly like the sound a well tuned 2cycle makes. And the thoudgt of trying to make it quiter breaks the laws of humanity in my book. Therefore Dude Sell That 2Stroke. Buy A freakin4stroke with a quiter pipe and damnit Dude do it now....OMG I've lost it now. Dude if you have ever heard a 750 triple with volosity stackes on 44mm carbs run with uncorked expantion chambers OMG it would let your water out........this rant was brought to you by Bigbone57 thank you and power up them 2cycles make some noise and have some fun. I'm done now.........

LMAO!

That must have been a drunken rant

Seriously though, since we don't know your climate there heat may or may not be a factor. If you are riding in cold temperatures (15C) I'd say go for the header wrap and try different material. Do it one at a time just so you can hear the difference between each.

Header wrap is simply a thermal blanket made out of some heat resistant material. One thing you must remember is that the wrap will

1) not look pretty
2) decrease the life expectancy of the exhaust pipe

You can look into tuned pipes but those can get expensive.

Lastly you can check out the following product which might help you out.

http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product1525.html
Description
Features a baffled interior design for a lower noise output, while still offering exceptional performance. Includes billet canister, spacer, gaskets, and 6x65mm mounting hardware. Typical gain is 2-3mph over stock exhaust.
Note: May also fit other applications - slotted center to center mounting spread is 1.59 - 1.7". Exhaust opening is .6 x 1.08".

LaughingBut seriously, How many of you Dudes have had the good fortune to actualy hear a 750 Kawasaki (H2) 3 cylinder, with uncorked expansion chambers (no silencers) equiped with 3ea. Mukuni 44mm carbs with volosity staks attached to them, scream past you at over 160mph plus? Dudes if you can still hear, wasn't it GREAT! Or heck even a 500 triple w/same set up? Makes my blood heat up....just thinkin 'bout it

Does the header wrap really hurt your motor? I'm no pro but if makes the pipe not put out so much heat then why would it make the head hotter? I have A pipe that melted my gas tank and after hours with my soldering gun I finally got it to hold gas again. So I wrapped the pipe to keep the heat off my tank, but I just put in a big bore kit an dont really want to hurt it.
