Default might be a problem

so I was putting in my new clutch the other day and I when I took the clutch bell of my elite the pinion fell out, I looked at it and where it sits is all chewed up from the pinion but the protective piece around the pinion keeps it in place... is it ok to ride like that??

it will evntually breakthe pinion and not mention it will be hard on chains. time for a new 1.
