That's the effect I was going for. Keeping the subject in focus while blurring the background.

I'm not pro at it yet, so only about 1/4 of them turned out perfectly. Another 1/3 are acceptable at lower resolutions but still not great. The rest are complete junk.

OK, time for me to geek out here...

As you can see on the pictures, the day was quite overcast. At the time those pictures were taken the Aperature Value was increased to allow more light in. The ISO was set at a blazing 800 and the rest of the settings are sekrut. Focus was on the rider to keep the object clear while the background appears to move.

The end result is that the riders look like they're doing 100 because the rider is in focus and the background is blurred. This type of image lends the idea of motion to the subject without having to actually see the object in motion.

These effects are all done with the camera, none of this is done with photoshop. It's all camera baby.

Origional photo size is 3456 pixels by 2304 pixels. This is equivalent to a print 48 inches wide by 32 inches high at 72DPI. These could also be printed on photo paper or developed and would give you an amazing looking 8x10 print. You could move up to a 10x14 with a little bit of quality loss.

8x10 Framed stills are available for a ton of cash
